Jeff has been doing so well! Since he pulled his tube out he has been eating his whole feedings! And the great news is that he gets to come home tomorrow or Wednesday! So I need to get everything ready, so his 2nd week post might not be happening today! :)

Jeff's 1st Week!
Hooray! The wait is finally ending! Jeffrey is coming home this week, if not in a few days! Tonight he ripped his feeding tube out, and the doctor let him keep it out so now there is no feeding tube! Jeff has been doing really well today of eating his whole bottle on his own, so as long as he gains weight the next couple of days, homeward bound he is!
Here are his photos of his first week in the NICU. I wanted to document the first week of his life in photos so here are just a few of them! Tomorrow I will post the second week!
Jeffrey James Hughes on his birth day, March 7, 2010. Born five weeks early.
1 day old. He was put on the ventilator because he was not breathing well enough on his own. The gold heart helps regulate his body temperature. My niece Olive saw this picture and called the golden heart his valentine. :)

Jeff Is Improving!
Jeffrey is now off the ventilator! Yesterday they took him off but he had to have a nose tube to help him out a little bit, but today it is out! It was great to hear his voice for the first time! They also took him off the lights yesterday for his jaundice is gone and they have started feeding him again! Yay! Today he is off the air, beginning to increase his food intake, and going from the NICU bed to a "big boy bed"! His own crib! Tonight he gets to have his first bath!So things are looking really good for him and tomorrow is his last day of antibiotics and we will begin doing real feeds tomorrow instead of all through the tube so we will see how it goes!

Jeffrey James Has Arrived!
Jeffrey James Hughes - 4lb. 14 oz. 18.5 in.
Well, life just happens sometimes! Little Jeffy decided to come five weeks early, so this past Sunday at 4:31 pm, and after six hours of natural labor, ( what was I thinking! ) he made his grand entrance into the world! He has RDS (respiratory distress syndrome) so he has been on a ventilator for the past four days and it is looking like he might be taken off of it tomorrow. Cross your fingers! He has a slight case of jaundice that developed yesterday and he is all ready getting better. Today was the first time he ate (through a tube straight into his tummy) but his stomach was not digesting it right so we are going to try tomorrow to see if he is ready to digest food. As soon as he can tolerate food and breathe on his own, we can begin to teach him how to eat. After that he needs to gain weight and then he will be able to come home! We love him and he is too cute!

A Pain in the Pregnant Butt and Gut
So pregnant ladies are supposed to crave what they want, eat what they want, and in the amount they want it in. If they want homemade chicken wings and 3 slices of homemade pizza, strawberry lemonade, a bottle of orange cream soda, ice cream, and a lovely congo bar...okay 2 congo bars, I should be able too with no consequences! But then comes a new friend in the third trimester: Acid Reflux. I find it cruel. I should have been warned. I've been taking two pepcids a day for the last three weeks, and no acid reflux since the first little bout, until I ate my wonderful feast that turned into a nasty beast at 2:30 am. I thought I had the flu, that was how bad it was. Didn't help that Jeffy wouldn't keep still. After a half hour bonding experience with Mr. Porcelain, I remembered the nurse telling me that sometimes acid reflux can give you flu like symptoms. And when I awoke this morning feeling fine, except a little tired, I knew it was just that. So now I know that pregnant ladies can crave what they want, eat what they want, and in the amount they want it in, only in the second trimester . . unless you are one of those lucky ones in the first trimester that don't have any morning sickness. . . jerks.

The Reality of Pregnancy
So this Sunday I will officially be 8 months pregnant! I will be a mom in eight or less weeks . . that's a reality check if I ever heard one if you ask me. But today I experienced what people have told me what will eventually happen when you are pregnant: forgetfulness, loss of balance, not being able to touch your toes. Well, today I can sympathize and share my own stories that new pregnant girls just smile and nod at. It started when my shower was finished. Sometimes our shower door gets stuck, and it will only open a little. Well, today it happened, but for the first time I couldn't squeeze through the opened shower door. What is this?! So a scrape on my belly later, I got out. Getting dressed, I realized my favorite maternity jeans are probably a little too small, or a lot small, and today was my farewell to those lovely jeans. And socks. Who thought they would become the article of clothing that makes you frustrated and make you think about crying! As I attempted to put those stupid socks on, I couldn't reach my feet, despite my grunting and trying different "put your sock on positions." All failed, and then a humbled pregnant lady calls for her husband, and gives him the "don't laugh or I'll cry/kill you look." Kudos to Grant, he quietly put my socks on with only a slight smile on his face. That was not the case when I got home from work and attempted to change into sweats. My jeans somehow got tangled on my foot, and over I fell. If this is only the beginning, I need some more chocolate milk and brownies.

I'M BACK!
So I see I have not been here since July of 2008! But I am going to try and make a comeback! I am trying to edit this blog, but I am not being very successful, so we will see if I can do this!
The big news lately in out lives is the news of our baby coming April 11th! We found out last Thursday we are having a BOY! We plan on naming him Jeffrey James after our dads and we are super excited!
p.s. I cannot get my cool background to show, so be patient with my technical difficulties.
